My name is Lucy Giles and I am a painter, illustrator, visual designer, musician, and writer.  I am a recent graduate of California State University, Long Beach with a major in Studio Art and a minor in Marketing.

I am driven to create artwork to capture the psychological state, emotion, and mood of “the moment.” My work tends to gravitate towards portraiture because the human expression carries an extraordinary amount of sentiment and tenderness.  I strive to portray romanticized notions of the past through the use of vintage iconography.  I am highly influenced by life and pop culture throughout the 20th century, but am particularly keen on the 1950s and 1960s.  I add my unique touch and personality to vintage themes through the use of bright colors.  Heavily inspired by early Technicolor and colorized imagery, my goal is to take the viewer out of the ordinary world and place them into a vivacious, fictive world.

In addition to being a figurative artist, I am also a musician.  My band Dog Party is a two piece band consisting of my sister Gwendolyn and me.  We started the band when we were just 8 and 10 years old.  I play the drums and sing, while Gwendolyn plays the guitar and sings.  Over the course of our career we have released 6 full length records and have embarked on countless tours domestically and internationally.  In 2016, Dog Party was the special guest on Green Day’s North American Revolution Radio Tour.

Additionally, writing is a vital component of my self expression and creativity.  I began writing songs and poems at the age of 8 and have not stopped since. Whether it’s a song, poem, or random thought, I am consistently writing.  I draw the majority of my inspiration from the songwriting styles of the 40s, 50s, and 60s country, rock n roll, pop, and soul.

When I sing and perform, my goal is to amplify the human experience through sentiment and tenderness – just like my art.
